I usually change the oil after each full day of riding, every 2nd change I do the filters. Just remember to fill the filter cavities with oil 1/2 way after I was going through a simple oil change on the KTM, and figured a few of you out there may need some guidance. I have a 2008 450EXCR that I dual sport and it is GREAT! I did change the front and rear sprockets to lower the gearing a bit and it will still go almost 100mph. It is race bike like in the dirt and street competent to get to the dirt. It is the best dual sport bike I have owned since 1969. #14. G600 , Nov 29, 2009.

For the US spec 350 FEs and EXC-F the oil change intervals are in miles, 31 miles for the first service then every 500 miles roughly which is a little more reasonable than every 15 hours. However this is still excessive and most owners don't follow that. right at 1.6 quarts no more. with both oil screens removed and filter drained. you prime the oil filter inlet spout about 1/3rd up the oil filter cavity, then install filter , with bike laying on its side. oil filter bolts are very light weight, snug them gently or they will strip, 4ftlb spec, just snug them, dont torque with a ftlb torque The newer XC4 motor has more intensive maintenance (not that it is hard). Regardless of motor, I usually change oil every 5-10 hours on my 400/450 bikes (pretty conservative though) and change the filters/clean screens every second or third oil change. Agree with Albie that any good oil will be fine as the RFS motors are not picky.
I have an 06 450 EXC with over 180 hours. I check he valves every other oil change and have had to adjust the valves 3 times. The last 2 times the valves have been fine. A friend of mine had an 02 400 EXC with over 10000 miles, not sure of the hours, but it was probably in need of a rebuild.
1 post ยท Joined 2012. #1 ยท Jul 2, 2012. I just got this bike. I figured out how to drain the both sections of the oil, but do not know how to put the oil back in for the gear oil. Can someone suggest where? Also, I cannot find a service manual for this bike. if someone has it I would love a copy.
KTM's manual recommends that after every 105 amateur (that's me) hours to do the following: Change the spark plug and spark plug connector. Change the piston. Check/measure the cylinder. Check the cylinder head. Change the valves, valve springs and valve spring seats. Check the camshaft and cam lever.
